These guidelines will help you in prepare for your exhibition. Please read them. We look forward to showing your work, and having a successful exhibition.
Delivery of artwork - Work must be delivered (or shipped) to the ACM by the artist 2 weeks prior to the installation date. Let us know when to expect your piece. If you ship to us we will ship back the same way.
Installation of work - Artwork is placed and installed by ACM staff. Please do not ask us to paint, change wall colors or do major construction for your work.
Framing requirements - All work must be framed uniformly and wired to hang. Large size work (over 36") may be put under plexi (supplied by artist). A damage release waiver must cover any pieces too large to protect.
Lighting - We light to AMA standards. (5-10 foot-candles for works on paper, 10-15 foot-candles for oils and photography and wood, 15-20 foot-candles for ceramics and stone.) This is to protect your work as well as ours.
Invitations - We send invitations to our list of approximately 5000 people. We also send out email alerts for all openings. You may share an invitation with other current exhibitions. You will be given invitations for your own use. They will have bulk mail indicia only for museum use. You still must add postage to them.
Catalog - We generally produce one catalog each year. These are usually for exhibitions tied to our collection. We do not include artist's exhibiting in On Their Own, Complex Conversations or the Artist-in-Residence program.
Press - We send press releases to a large mailing list with wide-ranging results. If you have specific connections or leads pertaining to your work please let them know and coordinate your efforts with our publicity department (Laura Doherty, laura@artcomplex.org).
Images and text - We need you to provide either a museum quality slide of your work (labeled with title, date of completion, dimensions and materials) or a high resolution digital image (300dpi), along with an artist statement at least 6 months before the exhibition. We would prefer an image of work that will be exhibited, however if you are making work specifically for the exhibition, we will accept an image of other similar work. All these things can be emailed to Craig Bloodgood. (craig@artcomplex.org)
Takedown - All of our exhibitions are taken down by staff on the first Monday following the Sunday closings. Please arrange with a staff person to pick up your work as close as possible to the end of your exhibition. Unclaimed work becomes the property of the ACM (after 1 year) and will be treated as an unconditional gift.
Stipends - The ACM does not give stipends to artists, other than to artists in the Artist-in-Residence program.
Reception - All exhibitions have receptions provided by the ACM. Generally, they occur on Sundays from 1:30 -3:30 PM on the weekend following installation. Some artists will share receptions with other exhibitions. You may be asked to speak to our volunteers or provide one lecture for our public.
Insurance - The ACM insures all artwork wall to wall. This excludes work exhibited on the grounds. Artist may be asked to ascertain current market value of loaned objects.
Sale of Artwork - The Art Complex does not take a commission on work sold. We will keep a price list (you supply) at the front desk along with contact information.
